TriplePoint Kicks Off Austin Operations with a Game Industry Happy Hour

What do drinks on a Wednesday, retro arcade games from the 80s and 90s, and a city full of talented individuals all under one roof have in common? TriplePoint’s first Austin Game Industry Happy Hour at Kung Fu Saloon, of course. With TriplePoint adding two new members to the team in Austin, Andrew Karl and myself, there was no better way to throw a welcome party than enjoying happy hour with a group of like-minded gamers, techies and friends.

With more than 40 attendees, including folks from Bigfoot Networks, Blackhive Media, New Sound Games, Independent Game Developers Association, University of Texas students and more, TriplePoint Austin felt right at home in Texas’ capital. With discussions ranging from the tech industry, latest game developments, iOS titles and PC gaming, all the way down to the deliciousness of vodka shots with pickle juice chasers and who is best at NBA Jam, the atmosphere was beaming with energy. There might have even been some oversized Jenga and Connect Four to be had.

TriplePoint’s venture into Austin is a great opportunity to bring leading agency services for interactive entertainment, digital lifestyle and technology companies to such a booming market. With more than 20 major game studios, talented independent game developers found around every corner, and a technology market leading the way for central Texas, Austin was the perfect choice for expanding TriplePoint’s operations. Having offices in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York and North Carolina, TriplePoint now officially and effectively represents all three coasts.

TriplePoint Austin will continue to support the Austin gaming and tech scene by throwing more events similar to last Wednesday’s hurrah. In addition, Andrew and I will continue to make it out to other successful gaming events around town like Sunday’s Juegos Rancheros at The Highball, where Winnipeg’s Alec Holowka introduced Austin to the Winnitron 1000 with an attempt to drive interest in bringing the custom indie game arcade unit to Texas.

If you missed out on the last TriplePoint Austin event, keep on the lookout for our next ATX event, as we’ll be tweeting and posting on Facebook for the September redux.

Now, enjoy some of the pics from the event, as we’re sure you’re hoping to see your/our smiling mugs on here!
